If you’re looking for a great budget-friendly iPhone option, the new iPhone 12mini is definitely worth considering. It has many of the same features as the more expensive iPhone models, but at a fraction of the cost. Here’s a review of some of the key features of this phone:

The camera on the iPhone 12 mini is amazing – it takes clear, sharp photos even in low light conditions.

The phone runs on Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 15, which means you’ll have access to all sorts of cool features and apps.

The battery life on this phone is fantastic – you can easily go an entire day without needing to recharge it.

Cameras are as good as regular iPhone 12.

Battery life is not that great.

1. WHAT’S INSIDE THE BOX

The Iphone 12 mini comes in a mini and slim box. There is not much inside the box to talk about. Apple has decided from the iPhone 12 series they will not include a charging brick. Which is sad for some people who buy the iPhone for the first time in their life. They have to purchase the charging brick separately.

Samsung also followed the same route as Apple to not include charging brick in their high end smartphones.

If we are paying the premium price at least we should get the basics. Apple should make it an option when buying an iPhone. Customers can choose if they want the charging brick separately for free.

This way people who already own the iPhone before will not take the charging brick.

And for the low end phones they should remove the charging brick. Especially Samsung!

2. DESIGN

• It is IP68 water and dust resistant
• Lighting Port for charging
• Ceramic glass protection

This is the smallest phone of the iPhone 12 line up. Some people like the small form factor like me. The reason is, it’s really easy to handle in any situation. You don’t have to use your both hands while using the phone which is very convenient in my opinion.

Apple has chosen to make the phone flat from the edges, the same as the iconic iPhone 5 which is great for small phones but not for the larger phones in my opinion.

The weight balance of the phone is very good. Apple knows more about how to design a phone than any other smartphone company in the market.

The back of the phone is glossy glass and the front of the phone is what Apple calls ceramic glass. Apple claims it is very durable and it is at some point. But it is better to put a screen protector if you are planning to use your phone for years to come. 

Button quality is nice. It’s not very tactile as I was expecting but it does the job pretty well. The power button is bigger, which is something I like.

3. DISPLAY

• The size of the display is a 5.4 inches Super Retina XDR OLED display 
• The pixel density is around 476ppi (1080 x 2340 pixels)
• The screen ratio is 19.5:9 (~85.1% screen-to-body ratio)

Display of the iPhone 12 mini is very good. Colours are accurate. Pixel density is perfect. It’s crisp and sharp.

The only downside of it’s display is the 60hz refresh rate. In the world of 90hz and 120hz of mobile phone displays, Apple ships the iPhone 12 series display that is only 60hz. 

It’s not a deal breaker but for some people it is. Especially for the people who use an android phone that has a 120hz display.

Many people will not even notice it but some do. It is totally a personal preference.

If you really want that 120hz display then you should consider the iPhone 13 pro or 13 pro max that has a 120hz super smooth display.

The besels around the display is thinner compared to last year’s iPhone 11 series.

The display notch which packs the front camera and face id sensors are the same as last year’s iPhone 11 series.

4. PERFORMANCE

• This Phone comes with an A14 Bionic (5 nm) chip inside it.
• Talking about the core: 2Nos of 3.1 GHz Firestorm and 4Nos of 1.8 GHz Icestorm at 5nm process
• 4GB of RAM
• The storage available options are: 128,256, 512GB and 1TB

Performance of the phone is great. The Apple A14 bionic chip is way better than its competitors. Performance on ios 15 is good. Apps open up fast and smoothly.

Games play well without lag. It handles day to day tasks efficiently without any problem. Ram management is excellent. Through any app on it it will handle it just fine.

You can edit a 4k video on it if you want to. It’s that much powerful. And it is a good thing. This raw performance will make sure the phone performs smoothly for years to come.

Ios 15 is optimised for A14 Bionic chips. It is a very well optimised OS and will get better every year for sure.

So you should not worry about the performance on iphone 12 mini.

5. BATTERY LIFE

• It has a 2227mAh capacity battery.
• Fast charging up to 20W
• MagSafe wireless charging 15W

Battery life is average on iPhone 12 mini. Don’t get me wrong, it will make it till the end of the day. But you need to charge it before going to sleep.

If you are a very heavy user then only you might have to charge it twice a day.

Ios 15 is very well optimised for battery life. Even though it has a very small battery in it the OS and A14 bionic is so efficient that it pulls through the day.

See, it’s a small phone. Apple has very little space to arrange all the components in the small chassy and they have just put enough battery to pull you through one day only.

6. CAMERA

• Ultra-wide camera lens: 12 MP, f/2.4, 13mm, 120˚, 1/3.6″

There are two cameras at the rear of the phone. One is a wide angle lens and the other is an ultra wide angle lens.

Quality of the photos through these cameras is very good in daylight scenarios. The photos are crisp. It looks towards the warmer side as all iPhone cameras take slightly warmer colour tint photos and iPhone 12 mini is no exception.

Compared to the latest iPhone 13 series you cannot make a difference which photo has been taken from which phone. There’s not much difference.

If you are a professional photographer then you should consider iPhone 13 pro or 13 pro max as they have some cool options for the cameras that you might like.

At night the phone takes decent photos. It tries to take away the noises from the pictures pretty well. Compared to the iPhone 13 series, the iPhone 13 takes better low light photos thanks to better camera sensors.

Still if you do not compare it looks great even in low light.

Front facing camera is also decent and takes good selfies.

I think for casual users the cameras are just fine.

7. AUDIO

• The 3.5mm headphone jack is not present.

Speakers are great on iPhone 12 mini. We have a stereo setup on iPhone 12 mini. The bottom firing speakers are clear and loud with good mids and lows. Even have a good bass considering the size of the phone.

The second speaker is at the top near the ear piece. It’s not that good but does its job pretty well.

Watching entertainment on this phone will be enjoyable for sure!

8. SOFTWARE

iPhone 12 mini ships with iOS 15 and can be upgradable to iOS 15.3.1.In terms of operating system support, Apple has some very good information. It is good because it can support the phone for 5-7 years. Most Android smartphones support operating system support for up to 3 years. iPhones, on the other hand, support their phones for a very long time, so if you buy now in 2022, you’ll get to use the iPhone 12 mini for at least 5 years.

So, in terms of software compatibility, iOS is currently the best.

9. VALUE

Iphone 12 mini sells in Kuwait at KWD 209.900. The iPhone 12 mini is a powerful phone in a small form factor. It packs amazing features and performance with minimum price. It’s a great value phone for small phone lovers. Compared to iPhone 13 mini I would suggest iPhone 12 is more bang for your buck. But if you want the latest phone from Apple then sure you can consider the iPhone 13 to buy.

10. FINAL VERDICT

If you like small form factor phones then there’s no other better phone available then iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 13 min if you don’t mind to spend some extra money.

But my opinion is to go for iPhone 12 mini instead of iPhone 13 mini and the reason is,

1. There’s not much difference in terms of display cameras and built quality. Although the notch is smaller on the iPhone 13 mini, it’s not a deal breaker.
2. You can get the same experience, same features, and almost same performance at a lesser price point.
