iPhone 7 in 2022: The Future of Apple’s Flagship Device
Apple is proud of its bold move to get rid of audio jacks. But in almost every way, he is on a conservative path. The new iPhone looks basically the same as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S.
Water resistance, stereo speakers, and, finally, affordable storage options—it’s more than just the typical performance upgrade from last year’s iPhone.
Do you think this is the story of the iPhone 7? Apple’s first waterproof phone, first quad-core processor, and first pair of phone stereo speakers.
Well, it’s not easy either. The iPhone 7 was a better phone in many ways in the past. But how the phone stands now in 2022, Kuwait market? Let’s find out.
In 2022, the iPhone 7 will be 5 years old. It’s been a long time since it was released, and a lot has changed in the tech industry since then. So what is the verdict? Is the iPhone 7 still worth buying in 2022? Let’s take a look at some of its pros and cons.
- Taptic engine feedback is nice.
- Water resistance.
- Powerful and good sounding dual speakers.
- Improved cameras, screen and battery life.
- No headphone jack. (it is common now a days)
- The Jet Black model scratches easily.
- Iterative design.
- NFC functionality limited to Apple Pay
- No wireless charging
1. WHAT’S INSIDE THE BOX
- The Phone itself.
- Pretty long USB to Lightning Cable.
- Power Brick
- Wired earphones
- Lighting to 3.5mm adapter.
- User Manual and paper works + Apple Sticker
The Apple iPhone 7 comes in a very familiar box that includes an A/C adapter, a Lightning cable, and a pair of EarPods that end in a Lightning connector.
There is also a 3.5mm light adapter so you can use any headset you like. Additional adapters are available from Apple if you wish to use the adapter specified for each headset.
- Phone Weigh at 138g
- The phone’s dimensions are 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm
- It is IP67 water and dust resistant
- Lighting Port for charging
- Gorilla Glass for display protection.
The iPhone 7 measures 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm, exactly the size of the 6s. The new flagship somehow managed to reduce 5 grams to 138 grams.
Touching the iPhone 7 is a pleasure: it’s very thin and light, while the 4.7-inch screen makes it one of the most compact flagships available. Even though the iPhone 7 has a round shape, its matte finish provides enough grip. Waterproofing even if you put it in water will eliminate your worries.
The iPhone 7 may look very familiar, but it looks completely different and still quite relevant. One small change makes all the difference: the antenna bands are pressed up and down following the curvature of the phone. Therefore, in jet models, black and black are less annoying and almost invisible.
In recent years, each new iPhone generation has introduced new color options, and the 7th generation is no exception to this rule. Just look at newer iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, they have pretty beautiful color options to choose from.
Apple dropped the gray color from iPhone 7 for two new black options. Just Black is the new matte black with the same adhesive coating as the previous Space Gray, and Jet Black is a true blast from the past.
Unfortunately, the Jet Black version is very susceptible to scratches and recognizes fingerprints in seconds. Apple has even admitted that Jet Black phones aren’t for everyone. This is because the glossy exterior is easily damaged by scratches unless protected by a cover.
- The size of the display is a 4.7-inch Retina IPS LCD.
- The pixel density is around ~326ppi (750 x 1334 pixels)
- The screen ratio is 16:9 (~65.6% screen-to-body ratio)
The best part of the new screen is the color calibration. It accurately reproduces the most common colors we see in everyday life.
Of cource it cannot compete with the newer iPhone models which have higher resolution and brighter screens, but iPhone 7’s screen was best in class in 2016.
Although the screen may hide an improved panel, it still has the same specs in terms of size and resolution: a 4.7-inch device with a resolution of 750 by 1334 pixels (that’s 326ppi). It is an IPS LCD display with RGB matrix LED backlighting. It also has 3D touch capabilities, a technology we first saw in the iPhone 6s.
The Retina display on iPhone 7 is 25% brighter and conforms to a wider color gamut (cinema standard), although few users will notice the change. These are updates to the awesome screen of the iPhone 6s. The best part of the new screen is the color calibration.
- This Phone comes with an A10 Fusion chip inside it.
- Talking about the core: 2Nos of 2.34 GHz Hurricane and 2Nos of 2.34 GHz Zephyr at 16nm process
- 2GB of RAM
- The storage available options are: 32, 128, 256 GB
Apple is using the A10 Fusion chip in the iPhone 7. This is the first quad-core iPhone processor with two powerful cores and two low-power cores with a frequency of 2.34 GHz. The high-performance chip is about 40% faster than the A9 chip and twice as fast as the A8 chip. The other two cores are more energy efficient, requiring only 20% of the power required for a high-performance core.
The newer A15 Bionic chip found in iPhone 13 is 150% more powerful than A10 Fusion Chip. But after all these years the performance is pretty acceptable in 2022 for the average phone user.
There is also a GPU, with a 6-core processor, it is 50% faster than the A9 GPU and consumes only 66% of the power. Finally, the iPhone 7 uses 2 GB of RAM and the iPhone 7 Plus offers 3 GB.
5. BATTERY LIFE
- It has a 1960mAh capacity battery.
- No Wireless charging
The iPhone 7 has a removable 1960mAh Li-Po battery that is 15% more powerful than the iPhone 6s battery. There is also a new energy-efficient Apple A10 Fusion chip. This chip should ensure longer battery life than ever before, along with a new battery and improved iOS 10.
Overall, the iPhone 7 had very well-rounded results. On a single charge, you get about 11.5 hours of 3G calls or web surfing, and about 9 hours of video viewing. Endurance was moderate, averaging 61 hours for final grade.
But over the years the battery of iPhone 7 has degraded and it does not give a full day of battery life with moderate usage in 2022.
But for the backup phone or for your kid’s first phone the battery life is decent.
- Wide camera lens: 12 MP, f/1.8, 28mm, 1/3″, PDAF, OIS
- Selfie camera lens: 7 MP, f/2.2, 32mm (standard)
The iPhone 7 has an updated 12-megapixel camera with a brighter f/1.8 aperture that would let 50% more light reach the sensor, a six-element lens, and optical image stabilization (which was added to the Plus models only last year) .
The sensor is said to be 60% faster and 30% more efficient than the previous camera system found on iPhone 6s, along with an improved Apple Signal Image Processor. The new Quad LED True Tone flash is much brighter than the dual LED unit we had in the iPhone 6s.
But if we compare this camera with today’s latest iPhone, then, the cameras on iPhone 13 are absolutely a beast when taking photos and videos.
In 2022, iPhone 7 will do the job of taking good pictures in daylight just fine. But if you are a professional photographer and want the best image quality possible even in low light then you should definitely consider the iPhone 13 series.
In good light, the resolution of iPhone 7 is fine, but by no means better (or worse) than what previous iPhones have resolved. We noticed some softness in the sharp corners of the images, something we hadn’t seen in older iPhones – likely a direct result of a new, brighter lens.
The Apple iPhone 7 can record 2160p video at 30 frames, in addition it can record 1080p video at 30 and 60 frames per second. Slow motion movies can be recorded in 1080p at 120 frames per second or 720p at 240 frames per second. There is a time lapse mode that works well.
4K video has a bit rate of about 47 Mbps, but audio is recorded mono at 85 kbps in AAC format. 1080p videos at 30 frames per second have a bit rate of 16 Mbps and maintain the same sound, while 60 frames per second videos are released at a rate of 23 megabits per second.
- 3.5mm headphone jack is not present.
Connected to an active external amplifier, the Apple iPhone 7 performs excellently for the most part, but it’s the third consecutive iPhone that doesn’t offer true stereo quality. The slightly above average volume doesn’t match the best around.
Impressively enough, there is virtually no degradation when headphones are plugged in. The peak of stereo crosstalk is so limited that the iPhone 7 performs much better here than in the first test.
iPhone 7 ships with iOS 10 and can be upgradable to iOS 15.3.1.In terms of operating system support, Apple has some very good information. It is good because it can support the phone for 5-7 years. Most Android smartphones support operating system support for up to 3 years. iPhones, on the other hand, support their phones for a very long time, so if you buy now in 2022, you’ll get to use the iPhone 7 in at least 2 years.
So, in terms of software compatibility, iOS is currently the best.
Right now in Kuwait, iPhone 7 is priced at KWD 141.490 which is way too high and doesn’t bring any value if you buy at this price. It is better to look for newer models which are priced less compared to the features they provide.
iPhone X – 159.900 KWD
iPhone 11 – 174.900 KWD
10. FINAL VERDICT
iPhone 7 is an excellent phone for your secondary or if you use it as a back-up phone. It is also great if you want to give your child their first phone. The iPhone 7 won’t disappoint.
