• It is IP68 water and dust resistant
• Lighting Port for charging

iPhone 8 has a similar design as last year’s iPhone 7. Phone is made up of aluminum. There’s a glass on the back which feels durable. Of course not as durable as ceramic glass which is on newer iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

On the back there’s a camera hump that is nominal compared to newer iPhone.

There is an Apple logo in the center of the back of iPhone 8.

The edges of the phone are curved which is comfortable to hold unlike iPhone 12 pro Max and iPhone 13 pro max which have flat edges.

There’s a power button on the right and volume button on the left and a silence slider too.

At the bottom we got a lightning port, speaker and microphone.

Overall build quality is good compared to last year’s iPhone 7.

3. DISPLAY

• The size of the display is a 4.7-inch Retina IPS LCD.
• The pixel density is around ~326ppi (750 x 1334 pixels)
• The screen ratio is 16:9 (~65.4% screen-to-body ratio)

Display of the iPhone 8 looks nice. It is a 60hz display. Higher refresh rate screen tech was not present at that time. But if you really want a higher refresh rate screen then you should check iPhone 13 pro if it fits your budget.

For 2022 it’s still a nice looking display. Text is crisp and clear to read. Colours pop out and entertainment on this screen is great.

So in the screen department there’s no issue if you buy iPhone 8 in 2022.

4. PERFORMANCE

• This Phone comes with an A11 Bionic chip inside it.
• Talking about the core: 2Nos of Monsoon and 4Nos of Mistral at 10nm process
• 2GB of RAM
• The storage available options are: 64,128, and 256GB

A11 Bionic chip is old on paper for 2022 but it handles day to day regular tasks as a champ! Even a very demanding task also took care of the A11 Bionic. Newer games may lag occasionally but that’s not a deal breaker.

IOS 15+ is well optimised and future versions will be more optimised so the performance will not be an issue at least for a few years from now.

If you are not willing to compromise occasional lags and stutters then you should consider the newer iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, they are the best in this department.

5. BATTERY LIFE

• Qi wireless charging

Battery may concern you if you buy iPhone 8 in 2022. Don’t get me wrong. If you are a casual user then it will get you through the day but if you are a gamer or take a lot of videos on your phone then you should worry a little about it. If you are ok with charging your phone a couple of times in a day then the battery life is fine for you.

If you are a casual user and use mostly social media, emails and messages and phone calls then the battery life is sufficient for a day’s use. Do not expect 2 day battery life as it is an old phone.

6. CAMERA

Talking about cameras of iPhone 8 then the camera in 2022 is fine in my opinion unless you are a professional photographer.

Taking random photos and selfies throughout the day looks fine for social media and personal use. But if you are a professional social media influencer or something then you should look for the newer option available in the market.

7. AUDIO

• The 3.5mm headphone jack is not present.

3.5mm audio jack is missing and it is a common thing now in 2022. Every phone out there has a missing 3.5mm headphone jack and we have to live with it.

You can use an adapter which is included in the box.

In terms of phone speakers the sound quality is pretty decent. It will not compete with 2022 high-end phones but it can definitely with mid range phones in 2022.

The voice over the microphone is also crisp and clear. So no issues in microphone also if you are in good signal range in Kuwait.

8. SOFTWARE

iPhone 8 ships with iOS 11 and can be up gradable to iOS 15.4.In terms of operating system support, Apple has some very good records. It is good because it can support the phone for 5-7 years. Most Android smartphones support operating system support for up to 3 years. iPhones, on the other hand, support their phones for a very long time, so if you buy now in 2022, you’ll get to use the iPhone 8 in at least 3 more years.

So, in terms of software compatibility, iOS is currently the best.

9. VALUE

IPhone 8 is priced at KWD 149.900 in Kuwait for 128GB. That is too much in my opinion. If you can find a better deal in some local stores in Kuwait which is under 100 KWD then go for it otherwise there are many more options available in the Kuwait market.

10. FINAL VERDICT

If you are in Apple’s ecosystem and want a secondary phone for your work or you want to give your young children their first phone or want to replace your grandparents phone then this phone is a good choice. But only if you get a better deal in the Kuwait local market.
